Party in the city

The 4Days Marches officially starts every year on the third Tuesday of July, but in the days running up to that the city is already partying! The Vierdaagsefeesten start on Saturday. On Sunday, when the first walkers sign in at De Wedren, the 4Days Marches are officially opened.

4Days Marches Church Service

Stichting Vierdaagsemis has been organising a special church service on the Sunday before the start of the 4Days Marches for many years. For more information, visit the website of Stichting Vierdaagsemis.

Flag Parade

The traditional opening act of the 4Days Marches is the festive and colourful Flag Parade, when about 1,500 walkers - military servicemen and women and civilian groups from dozens of countries - march through the city to De Wedren on Sunday afternoon in a festive and musical parade. Once they have arrived at De Wedren, the opening ceremony officially kicks off The Walk of the World. A fixed part of the programme is the hoisting of the flags of all participating nationalities (around 70!) – and thousands of voices joining in to sing the 4Days Marches Song. Then the party really gets into swing!

The flag parade starts at 15:45 hrs CET from Kanaalstraat/Rivierenstraat and proceeds to Waterstraat, Biezenstraat, Voorstadslaan, Lange Hezelstraat, Parkweg, Doddendaal, Plein '44, Augustijnenstraat, Grote Markt, Burchtstraat, Hertogstraat, Van Broeckhuysenstraat, Van Schevichavenstraat, across Oranjesingel, and Prins Bernhardstraat. The parade is expected to arrive at the Wedren between 16:35 and 16:50 hrs CET.

If you'd like to participate as a group with more than 20 people in the 2025 Flag Parade, you can send an email to muziek@4daagse.nl, and you might receive an invitation for the next edition.

Waal in Vlammen

Every year, the City of Nijmegen, Stichting Vierdaagsefeesten and Stichting DE 4DAAGSE welcome the participants to the city with a spectacular fireworks display. The opening ceremony ‘Waal in Vlammen’ takes place on the Sunday evening before the 4Days Marches. Find a comfortable spot on the Waalkade, the best location to watch the show.
