For walkers who do not yet have a starting permit, there will be another opportunity from Tuesday, February 10, via the official ticket transfer. This process is conducted safely and anonymously through the 4Daagse platform. In previous years, many walkers have still been able to obtain a starting permit this way. The availability is often limited at first; most tickets usually become available only in the final weeks.
The interest in the 4Daagse is high. We understand that it can be disappointing that relatively few tickets were available for first-time participants and other interested people during the second registration period. However, the number of participants in the 4Daagse is limited to 47,000. This limit is necessary to ensure that the event can take place safely and in an orderly manner.
Within this fixed limit, the organization aims to maintain a good balance between returning, loyal walkers and new participants. As a result, the number of tickets available in period 2 may be limited. At the same time, figures from recent years show that first-time participants do have opportunities: on average, about one third of all participants are debutants. This includes young people, Via Vierdaagse participants, military personnel, participants from period 2, and walkers who take part through ticket transfer.
To improve accessibility, steps have already been taken in recent years. For example, the number of years for which previous participations count has been reduced from 20 to 10, and registration period 1 has been shortened from three weeks to two weeks. These developments are reviewed every year. Where possible, the organization gradually adjusts the registration rules, taking into account all target groups.
We appreciate the great enthusiasm for the 4Daagse and hope to welcome as many walkers as possible at the start again this year.
