'It’s on the Zevenheuvelenweg that I really get the 4Days Marches feeling'
In addition to a change in Wijchen, the fourth walking day of the 4Days Marches will also see a new development this year: the 50 km route will be adjusted to enhance the overall experience along the way. At the request of the municipality of Heumen, these walkers will now, like those on the other distances, pass through the village center of Overasselt. This will result in a small but expectedly positive change further along the route, between Beers and Vianen.
With these changes, the organization is responding to the wishes of local residents and business owners who are eager to welcome the walkers into the heart of their villages. The adjustment in Overasselt adds an extra loop of approximately 400 meters, which is offset along the stretch between Beers and Vianen to maintain the overall distance.
Warm welcome and lively atmosphere
"This change creates more atmosphere and engagement along the way," says Hans Teunissen, Head of Mobility at Stichting DE 4DAAGSE. "The 50 km walkers will now also receive a warm welcome in Overasselt, while residents get the opportunity to be part of the overall 4Daagse experience. We have carefully coordinated the changes with the municipalities and local parties involved."
The adjustment between Beers and Vianen replaces the traditional dike route with a path through a more populated and attractive rural area. "This not only fosters more interaction with the public but also aligns with the logistical and permit-related frameworks we, as an organization, need to consider," says Teunissen.
Collaboration and Festivity
The 4Days Marches are known for their unique blend of athletic achievement and a celebration of unity and togetherness. With the new route, Overasselt and Beers will become even more involved in this festive spirit. The organization therefore expects that the adjusted route will contribute to an even more celebratory and welcoming fourth day of walking.
