Improved Start procedure 108e 4Daagse

Estimated reading time 2 minutes

Only a few weeks remain until the starting signal for the 4Days Marches! For this edition, we have further improved the start procedure. Based on research, feedback from our participant panel, and our internal evaluation, we have continued to refine the process to ensure a safe, fair, and enjoyable start for everyone.

What stays the same?

We will continue to use a staggered start. Our analyses show that this approach works well for keeping participants moving smoothly along the route and ensuring safety throughout the march.

What changes?

  • Separate start zones will be designated for each distance.
  • Additional barriers and more stewards will be deployed to prevent queue jumping. Please give each other space and wait patiently for your turn to help keep the start safe and enjoyable for everyone..
  • If you choose to start later within your assigned time slot, you can use a dedicated bypass to reach the start gate without obstruction.
  • We have improved the routing and walking paths leading to the start area.
  • Some of the picnic tables on the start squares have been removed to create more space, making the waiting area safer and more comfortable.

We understand that waiting at the start can sometimes feel crowded or inconvenient. At the same time, this approach helps prevent congestion further along the route. With so many participants, starting everyone more quickly would simply lead to greater crowding on the course. That is why we have deliberately chosen this setup.

To make the wait a little more enjoyable, we will create a welcoming atmosphere with entertainment and a touch of early-morning cheer.
