Estimated reading time 2 minutes
Good news for all walking fans: following the success of the Alternative Four Days Marches last year, you will be able to experience the feeling of the Four Days Marches in an alternative event again this year.
Stichting DE 4DAAGSE and KWBN (Dutch Walking Association) sympathise with the many thousands of walking fans who will again not be able to walk the Four Days Marches in Nijmegen this year. So they have decided to organise the 2021 Alternative Four Days Marches, in collaboration with sports marketing agency House of Sports. People all over the world will be able to experience the Four Days Marches feeling and win an Alternative Four Days Marches medal. Registration opens today on www.dealternatievevierdaagse.nl.
The participants will walk 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 kilometres a day on a route of their own choosing during the week of the Four Days Marches from 20 to 23 July. Foreign participants can also register for the Alternative Four Days Marches, making this a truly international event, which will take place all over the world. Participation is free of charge and, after payment of a small contribution, the walkers’ well-deserved reward will be sent to their home address.
Henny Sackers, chairman of Stichting DE 4DAAGSE: “Despite the huge disappointment, all those involved have shown understanding for the circumstances, which have again made it impossible to hold the Four Days Marches event, for the second year running now. However, we refuse to be stopped by the fact that we and 45,000 participants will once again not be able to walk in Nijmegen. Thanks to the Alternative Four Days Marches, we can still give our walkers in the Netherlands and all over the world the Four Days Marches feeling!”
Paul Sanders, executive director of KWBN: “The more than 20,000 participants who registered for the Alternative Four Days Marches last year gave us a huge boost and have inspired us to organise this alternative event again this year. Interest in walking continues to grow stronger, and there is no denying the positive side effects that walking has, both physically and mentally. This year we will all join in and walk the 2021 Alternative Four Days Marches together again, even though we will follow our own individual routes.”
A revised walking app will be used to track the participants and record the route they walk every day. The update for Android and iOS will be made available a few days before the Alternative Four Days Marches. You can register for the Alternative Four Days Marches on www.dealternatievevierdaagse.nl.
