Starting procedure for 30- and 40km walkers (individual)

Since 2007 the 40km walkers have started in two separate groups. In recent years, the start of the 30km has also become increasingly crowded. A lot of participants seem to want to start as early as possible. Consequently, large crowds of waiting walkers often accumulate at the start, which inevitably also gives rise to safety risks. Participants have indicated that they are unhappy with the starting procedure, the jostling crowd, the waiting times and the "queue jumpers". The organization is also trying to spread the flow of walkers on the route, in order to prevent congestions as much as possible. This is why the board of Stichting DE 4DAAGSE has decided that, starting this year, not only the 40km walkers will start in two separate groups, but the 30km will start in two separate groups as well.

Two 'first start slots', two 'second start slots'

Every participant on the 30- and 40km is assigned to the first start slot for two days and to the second start slot on the other two days. Your checkpoint card is marked with a colour on the days that you are allocated to the first start slot.

The partitioning of start slots is linked to the (random) allotment of a walker to a registration desk. The 30km and 40km are both divided in registration desks ‘Gladiolus’ and ‘Walking Shoe’. The desk where you need to register is stated on the final confirmation of your registration. You can find your confirmation at My Four Days. Different checkpoint cards

Every individual participant will receive a checkpoint card upon registration (on Sunday and Monday) and at the end of each marching day (except Friday). In case you are assigned to the first start slot the next day, you will receive a marked checkpoint card at your registration desk. Besides a colour mark, the time of the first start slot is stated upon this checkpoint card. With this checkpoint card you can use the first start slot.

At the start, every participant has to have their barcode carrier scanned and has to show their checkpoint card. Anyone who enters the Start Area for the first start slot without a card with the permission to start early, will not be scanned and will be sent away. The starting officials cannot and will not enter into a discussion with participants on this matter. From a sportsmanlike point of view, starting without having your barcode scanned is useless, since disqualification upon arrival at the finish will be inevitable.

Changing registration desk

It could occur that participants would like to start together, but have been assigned to different registration desks and therefore are not able to make use of the same start slots. The possibility of changing the registration desk that was assigned to you (and thus also changing starting times) is frequently requested by participants. In order to satisfy this request, it is now possible to switch registration desks.

How can I switch my registration desk?

In order to let us know that you wish to be assigned to a different registration desk, go to ‘Personal details - Registration 2018’ in My Four Days. Here you will see a blue button with the text ‘Switch registration desk’. Click this button and follow the instructions.
After you have sent your request, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail. Please note: once the request has been submitted, it can not be cancelled. If you change your distance after you have submitted a request to change your distance, the request will automatically expire.
You will not be assigned to a different registration desk immediately - the exchange will only take place once another participant makes his or her spot available and depends on the amount of other outstanding requests. As soon as a spot at the other registration desk is available, you will automatically be assigned to this registration desk in our administration. You will receive a confirmation by e-mail. Please note: if there are no spots available at the other registration desk, the exchange can not take place. There currently are more requests from participants who wish to switch from Gladiolus to Walking Shoe than the other way around. This means that there is a longer waiting time for switching from Gladiolus to Walking Shoe than for switching from Walking Shoe to Gladiolus.
After you have switched registration desks, your final confirmation will also be changed. You can print out a new confirmation letter via My Four Days.
It is possible to submit a request to change your registration desk up to and until 12 July. All requests will expire after 12 July.

Other possibilities to start together

If you have not been able to switch your registration desk as described above before 12 July, then there are also other possibilities to start together with your walking partner.
Chosing the second start slot: You do not have to start early; you can also always choose to start in the second start slot. Starting in the first start slot is a privilege, not an obligation.
Trading checkpoint cards: The checkpoint card that you receive at your registration desk is marked with a colour on the days that you are allocated to the first start slot. Only when you show this card at the start you will be allowed to start in the first group. This card is not personal and can be given to another walker (with the same distance). At the start and finish area you can switch checkpoint cards with fellow walker.s This is allowed, but you will have to settle this yourself. The organisation does not mediate. It is not possible to arrange for a marked checkpoint card at another registration desk.

Don't come to the Start and Finish area too early

Grant your fellow walkers the space that this starting procedure is meant to create. Participants without a card for the first start slot may not leave before 06.00 hrs (40km) or 07.30 hrs (30km), so there is no point in arriving at the start and finish area earlier.

Civilian groups, 50km and 40km Heumensoord

This starting procedure only applies to individual participants walking the 30- and 40km route and starting at the Start and Finish area the Wedren/Julianaplein. All other participants shall start at the times that apply to them.
