Public Transportation

During the 101st edition of the Four Days Marches, the public transportation carriers will do their utmost to transport all walkers and visitors to and from Nijmegen. From the start of the Vierdaagsefeesten at July 15, additional buses and trains will run in and around Nijmegen, from early in the morning till late at night.

The best way to access the city during the Four Days Marches is by public transportation. Whether you are a walker, supporter, or partygoer, public transport will take you to the heart of the city.

Travel to Nijmegen by NS

During the Four Days Marches and the Vierdaagsefeesten, additional and longer (night) trains will be deployed in order to transport all walkers, supporters and partygoers to their destination. To make sure that your journey will run as smooth as possible, you should prepare your trip by looking at the information offered at (Dutch only). Plan your journey 10 days in advance by using the NS Travel Planner or the NS Xtra app. Revisit these pages shortly before departure in order to see if there are any last minute changes and to plan your return trip.

In 2017, Prorail has planned several renewal activities, which might influence your journey. Please check the scheduled enineering work.

Additional Trains

In order to make sure that all walkers will appear at the start on time the NS will deploy special night trains that run every night from Monday to Friday:
• Utrecht Central Station: an Intercity will depart at 03.45 and at 4.45, which will stop at all stations between Arnhem en Nijmegen.
• Zwolle: an Intercity will depart at 04.16, which will stop at Wijhe en Olst and all stations between Arnhem en Nijmegen.
• ‘s-Hertogenbosch: a train will depart at 01.52, 02.52, and 03.52 which will stop at all stations until it reaches Nijmegen
• Additional trains will be deployed between Oss and Nijmegen and between Arnhem and Nijmegen.
On the day of the festive entry on the Via Gladiola, the NS will deploy additional trains.

The times mentioned above are subject to change. Therefore, we advise you to check the NS Travel Planner or the NS Xtra app shortly before your trip for the most up-to-date departure times.


We recommend that you book your tickets in advance in order to avoid long queues at the card machines.
You can buy the special Vierdaagseretour, which allows you to travel from any city within the Netherlands to Elst, Wijchen and Nijmegen for a reduced fare.
 This ticket can only be acquired online.
 The Vierdaagseretour is valid for one day starting at 00.00 until 05.00 a.m. the next day in the period from July 15 till July 21.
 If you travel on subsequent days you will need to buy a ticket for each day. Please remember to fill out the correct date and to print the e-tickets at home.

Travel to Nijmegen with Breng

The buses of Breng will run according to their regular timetable. Additional early busses will be deployed specifically for the walkers from Tuesday till Friday, which will arrive at the Wedren at 03.50, 04.50, and 05.50 a.m. For partygoers, special night buses will run from Nijmegen to various destinations in the region. Blister Pass

The Nijmegen Four Days Marches Blarenpas, or Blister Pass, is a special bus pass for the week of the Four Days Marches. This Blister Pass is valid for all the early fares from and to Nijmegen but also for all other fares according to the regular timetable during the week of the Four Days Marches. For any additional information concerning the Blister Pass please visit

Bus company Breng will have an information stand at De Wedren on Sunday 17 July and Monday 18 July. You will be able to buy a Blister Pass there. You will also be able to purchase a Blister Pass at the Breng information kiosk in the concourse of Nijmegen’s Central Station, which will open on Saturday July 15 from 09.00 a.m. - 05.00 p.m. and Monday to Friday and 07.00 a.m. - 07.00 p.m.

Travel to Nijmegen with Arriva

During the Four Days Marches, Arriva will deploy extra (night)trains between Arnhem Central-Doetinchem, Nijmegen-Venray and longer trains between Nijmegen-Venlo. Camp Heumensoord

Camp Heumensoord, the start and finish location for participants holding a military starting ticket, can also be reached by bus. Breng will offer a special bus service between the Central Station in Nijmegen and Camp Heumensoord.
